Rustavi - Georgia
Rustavi is the forth largest city in Georgia (following Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi) and the second (following Tbilisi) important industrial center in Georgia. It is located in the south-eastern part of the country in the Kvemo Kartli Province, on the river Kura, only 25 km south-east of the capital Tbilisi. The number of inhabitants is about 120 thousand. Main industry branches include metallurgy, chemical industry, food industry and construction. The city has deposits of non-ferrous metals.
The local auto exchange is one of the largest in the South Caucasus. It serves from 10 to 15 thousand customers daily.
The history of the city dates back to the fourth century AD. However contemporary Rustavi was established in 1948. It was set up in the place of the old village destroyed by Mongols in the thirteen century. The town's development came with the construction of the huge metallurgical plant producing pipes for oil pipelines for the South Caucasus.
Cultural life of the city is very rich. Several theaters (The National Drama Theater and Children's Theater being the most famous) and Historical Museum operate in the city. Georgian Academic Song and Dance Ensemble “Rustavi” enjoys international recognition.
